I'm building my own desktop and I am searching on online stores and in Best Buy and stuff and I'm stuck. So I ask, what's a good video card to buy? I need a few things for it to do:
1: It needs to support dual monitors. I have two Dell G2410 24" monitors and I need the video card to be able to support both.
2: I don't need it for gaming capabilities. I need it for just basic computing and simple gaming (ie Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 / Zuma) that also can play movies and TV shows from iTunes.
I posted a question over at computerforums.com and they all gave me answers about gaming video cards that cost like 900 bucks. I don't really mind the price as long as it's not ridiculous.
Work with me people. Cheers!|||try ATi/radeon x1650

REVISIT: IS THIS A GOOD VIDEO CARD?
OK So i asked a question about a video card for miod graphics
but....
now i feel a bit like not taking less than i can get to save a bit so here:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=…|||Refurbed with a 90 day warranty? Yech, don't touch it!
Don't just check geeks.com, though. Check Newegg and Tigerdirect to find the best deal. If you can, squeeze in a few more bucks and get a Radeon 5750.
Although looking at your earlier question, you don't want to put too much into a video card, so I'd say 5750 is the most you should get. Get another 2GB of RAM (you only have 2GB, not very good for gaming) and a Pentium D, which is a pretty lousy processor by modern standards.
That looks like about the best you're going to do with what you have. However, DO NOT count on rebates when pricing something out. That card is actually $125 and you're rolling the dice on rebates. Get this one instead:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…
Less money upfront and less money after rebate, too.
In a gaming rig, the video card often costs as much (if not more) than the motherboard. You can get a good motherboard for under $200, but a lot of nicer gaming cards will run you $300+|||That's an excellent price on a GTS 250, although it is a refurb.
The 250 will require a 6-pin PCIe power connector from your power supply. Hopefully you have a 430+W power supply already in there. If not, you'll need to factor in a new power supply into your budget.
I'd recommend the Radeon HD 5670 which is about the best video card you can get that doesn't require auxiliary power.

A good video card that i can get for £100 Ati or Nvidia ?
i want to play videos (HD ) on a 24 inc samsung monitor and also games ...so any good card that i pick up for this price range £100-£130|||In that price range you should be able to pick up a Radeon HD5750/ 5770, or a gtx250 (Nvidia).
Bear in mind the Nvidia option is technically obsolete, Up to date Nvidia cards are due for release in the next month or two.
Don't forget to check the power requirements, the HD57xx series use a lot LESS power than the HD48xx and the Gtx250
Newegg don't deliver to the UK but it is worth looking at their website for the customer reviews.
try:

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/|||I would recommend you look and see if your current setup would support these cards, but around 100-130, you should get a pretty good Radeon HD 4770, Radeon HD 4850, or Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT. As for your monitor, generally the bigger the monitor, the more onboard RAM you should get.

Whats a good Video card FOR COD4?
Whats a good video card that will run cod4 smoothly,im thinking of making a computer, plz give me some advice on that to|||Call of Duty 4 has a very good engine and doesn't need as a powerful card as people think. A lot of Cards will run it well. I could run it in highest in 7900 GS and it was perfect. I think that an 8800 GT would be a good option because of value for money and performance.
Some thing like this would be good card to go for:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…
That particular GT has very good reviews and would run COD4 like a dream.
A GTX would also give you good performance and are a lot cheaper than they used to be because of the 9x series. It would also get better fps on newer games such as Crysis and would be a bit more future proof but wouldn't be a substantial amount.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…
If you want a card that will run COD4, be future proof and have something to show off would be something like a 9800 GTX which have recently dropped in price by quite a bit. I have one and i love it, it runs cool for a new gen card and gets very good fps. (I never drop below 70 on Cod4) I have this one and i would recommend it:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…
If you want to go for an ATI option then a 3x series would be good for value and performance, the first review on this card is 'great card at a very good price. drivers installed first go and started up COD4 and it looks fantastic. much happiness with this card.' So can't go wrong really :P
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…
And an option that you could show off would be a 4870 or a 4870x2. Recently people have said that they are better than the Nvidia cards in terms of performance. I would recommend http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc…
For what you want if you are willing to spend a bit more money.
But yeah if all you want to do is run Cod4 and aren't really worried about future proofing your system an 8800GT is perfect.
Good Luck with you build :D
|||ATI 4870X2 > ATI 4870 = Nvidia GTX280 [depends on game, but the 4870 costs much less] > Nvidia GTX260 >ATI 4850 > Nvidia 9800GTX+ > Nvidia 9800/8800GT
(roughly)
The Nvidia 9 series is basically the 8 series renamed. Not much of a performance gap between the two.
If you're trying to save money, get the 8800GT. It'll still last a long time. However, if you're going to spend about $150 on a 8800GT, look at the ATI 4850. After rebates it becomes about that price, and it has much better performance.

Is a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 2GB 16X PCI a good video card for gaming?
Is a NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 2GB 16X PCI a good video card for gaming?|||Not bad but i would kick it up a notch to a 9800GTX I assume your looking at the SPARKLE SX96GT2048D2-HP GeForce 9600 GT 2GB? It has a good rating and can play Crysis so it would be ok.|||its not the best, but it does me well for gameing, with no problems.
