Do I have to tell the computer to detect a video card?

I have a cheap 128mb builtin motherboard video card and want to buy a better video card.

If I install it in the computer with the drivers that came with it, will it automatically detect it?

If no, then how do I tell the computer to detect it?|||yeah, if you buy a video card just install the drivers on the cd after you pop it in and you are all set. make sure to plug your monitor into the new video card.|||Yes, the disc that comes with the card, sets the pc to detect the device, and all should be fine.|||You do not need to tell it as long as all of the drivers are installed. In your case, they are not installed, so you have to look up the video card and download the drivers.|||if it's plug and play (PnP) it will work by itself

always install the driver first|||whoa never use the drivers on the cd it is the first firmware and usually glitchy. go tot he site of the manufacturer and dl the newest drivers

Do you think that this is a good video card for moderate gaming?

Can you help me in finding a good video card for a gaming PC im Building?

Im looking for 2 GTX 260 SLI video cards for a gaming rig im building that are below my $365 video card budget and im considering these 3:

1. ASUS ENGTX260 SLI Supported Video Card

2. PNY VCGGTX260CXPB GeForce GTX 260 SLI Supported Video Card

Of those 3 which is the better choice or are there better cards that are below my budget. Also are ther better options like a 250, thanks.|||Check out anything by NVIDIA - Those are BEAUTIFUL - and I recommend GeForce for gaming.

Getting a good video card for my dell?

I'm buying a Dell XPS M1210 and as I'm costumizing it right now I'm wondering if the 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go is worth the extra $125? I could get the Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 but then extra money for the upgrade doesn't seem bad|||I would go with the Nvidia GeForce Go if you want to be able to run Windows Vista. Also, a discrete grpahics card, like the GeForce Go, will free up system memory for the operating system and applications to use. Integrated graphics will reserve a certain amount of system memory (depending on how much you have installed) up to 256MB. Vista will run with integrated graphics, but not all features will install. How much system memory are you having installed,as this will make a big difference in performance, whether you run XP or Vista. I think 1GB should be the minimum, 2GB if you intend to run Vista.|||I use a geforce fx 6500 card, it's a bit dated now but as I don't play games on my pc, it work fine for what I need it for, If you don't play games on your pc there's really no point in spending loads on a card.

If you do a lot of gaming then I'd recommend the latest Nvidia card anyday.|||It depends upon what you want out of your computer!

For games, streaming video and other graphic intensive applications you could certainly consider investment in a higher spec graphics card.

If you're going to not use the machine for graphics intensive applications then DO NOT waste your hard earned cash on upgrade of graphics adaptor but maybe consider other features - such as the memory on the machine. For most average users - more memory equates to better performance and you get a better return on investment (in performance terms) by boosting memory than getting a faster processor due to the fact that the faster the processor the more time the processor spends idle since the bit of the computer that takes information to/from the processor will ALWAYS run at one speed!

Whats a good computer or video card to run World of Warcraft?

Hey I play World of Warcraft and I'm looking in to buying a computer with a good video card (desktop computer) for 700-800$ or less. If people would just simply tell me or post links for computers I would be more than happy. Thank you.|||Check out the Cyber Power Mega Special I. How much does a good video card cost?

I want a good video card probably for gaming. I have an IBM computer (it was free and i don't have much money, so I took it) and it runs on Windows 2000. I want a good video card, and once I get it I will upgrade to vista and start gaming. anything? how much will it cost, what type is it, and how do i install it?|||A good video card can cost you anywhere from $100 to $300, depending on the graphics processor on which it's based and the manufacturer and the retailer offering it. Currently, this is the best big name brand video card for a low-budget:

MSI NX8600GT Twin Turbo GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card, $101.99 plus $6.33 three-day shipping = $108.32 total @ Newegg.com

There are 3 types, PCI, AGP, and PCI-Express. Since your running windows 2000, your comp might be older and might have pci connection. Hopefully it's at least agp! if your pci, your best card on the market will be an ati 1550 for 100$. if your agp, and want the best in that, the nvidia 7800gs or ati 1950pro are the best cards and are about 200$ , and if by some miracle you have pci-express you'll want an 8800 anything, gts, gt, gtx, ultra, and they range from 150-500$ but all will kik butt on games! Find out your connection on your motherboard first! to install a new card. you simply unplug the old one, plug the new one in, download the drivers from the manufacturer's site, restart the comp and voila!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

I had a p4 2.66ghz with a 7800gs, 1.2gb ram, I could barely play bioshock, I could play bf2 almost maxxed out. It's the processor that is the bottleneck. If you only have $125ish to spend on a card than go for it, make sure you have enough amps on your 12v rail (power supply)

If you have $400-$500 you can build a budget pc that would blow your rig out of the water. Motherboard $75, processor $75, psu $50 , ram $50 , kik azz video card $100. Use your old hard drive and windows, as well as your cd drive, etc. and for $350 you'll be crushing stalker.

But if your only going for agp, get the 3850. The last fastest agp card to be made. Even P4's at 4.0ghz bottleneck this card. It's slightly slower than a 9600gt.|||You dont mention your price range and gpus go from $40 to over $500, so it makes your question pretty much impossible to answer. This site should help though.

What is a good video card for my pc?

i have an intel chipset. i am 13 years old and i am saving money to buy a video0 card which is worth 2500 pesos which is like 50 dollars i think. how do i replace the video card? when i asked the dude in the shop on what is a good video card he said the video card with the asus brand. when i asked why not NVidia and the dude said its for high grade motherboards only and i know my computer is not that. i want a new video card because my left 4 dead 1 and 2 gameplay sucks because all the walls are white. if u need more details just tell me|||you can get a gt 240 for 60.00 after rebate but before rebate it is like 80.00 for 50.00 you can get like a 4650 but please make sure you have the right slot for the type of video card you are going to get.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||well i might be able to play games @ low but it will have compatiblity issues for most games. If you look on intel site for game compatibility it will be long and comprehensive but when you actually get the computer it will be a disappointment. If you get atleast a 8600, 9600, for a 2600 series integreated graphics you'll be able to play it at probably medium to high.|||unofrtunetly that vid card is very weak so new games on medium settings? no.

5 year old games on low settings, probably.

Does Nvidia GeForce 4 MX is a good video card for game or not?

I installed this video card 1 year ago and some games doesn't run on it because they aren't supported by my video card.|||Geforce4 MX cards do not support Pixel Shader 2.0, and therefore are basically DirectX 7.0 compatible cards. Considering most games are DirectX 9, and DirectX 10 (in the case of Windows Vista) there are not a lot of 3D games that you can run anymore with a Geforce4 MX. If you're looking for recent games, then it's time to update to a more recent card. If not, then try and find games that are Direct X 7.0, and do not have 'pixel shader 2.0' as a requirement to play the game.

Good luck to you.|||That is a pretty outdated card and it's not great for the more current games. I would suggest doing a little research and getting a new card if you want to play newer games. I'm guessing your motherboard is an AGP slot so make sure you look for those type of cards. PCI Express is definately the way to go these days though.|||This specific card is a few generations back as far as GeForce cards go. Unfortunately, you won't have much lock with any recent games. I think it's time for a graphics card update if you can afford it.|||Short answer is NO WAY. Unless you plan to play games that are over 5 years old that is :) I don't think any recent games even support that card.

Good video card?????

whats a good 128/256mb video card that does NOT need to plug directly into my psu/ i only have a 175w psu and its a sff pc compaq/hp made the power supply themselves so it cannot be upgraded, i want windows 7 near xmas but video card isnt cutting it. thanks. (regular pci or low profile agp 4x/8x)|||if you want a GOOD graphic card you have to instal a 600 watt psu

otherwise you get a simple card which is not able to handle heavy

games, and ofcourse does not take a lot of electricity.

How to make an application think i have a good video card?

Hi, I am running Windows 7 as a virtual machine on VirtualBox. The Windows 7 system and the apps think my video card is "VirtualBox Graphics Adapter". Because of this i cannot run a certain game. The game is called Entropia Universe. How do i fool this game or make my real Video Card as my Windows 7 video card?|||If your card do not support the game then that,s it ,it will not play. You can click on the game icon open it and see if you can run the game with a compatIbilty option , eg Windows XP or Windows 98. If it,s a new game 2008/09 that may not work but give it a try.

Hi.i want to choose a good Video Card.but i have many chance. What's the more important parameter to select one

================more important==============

1-Memory Capacity

2-GPU

3-Memory Speed|||1. High memory capacity (512mb+) is only needed when playing at higher resolutions (1680x1050 & 1600x1200 or higher). Though, there are a few games that require 512mb+ to put the setting to Ultra High Quality (GRAW2 and UNREAL).

If you're gaming at 1024x768 or 1280x1024, 256-320mb models should suffice.

2. Generally, the newer the GPU design the better the performance for a given class of cards. For instance, the 8600gt is quicker in newer, shader intensive games than the 7600gt. The 8800-series Nvidia's absolutely trounce every other card out there.

If you want to game at 1080p resolutions (1920x1080) you must have a 8800gts 640, 8800gtx/ultra, or the 2900xt.

3. Memory and core speeds do play a part, but again, the newer (GPU) equivelent level card will always be faster. Also, low-end cards use a 128-bit memory interface, while mid-to-high use 256-bit or higher (this increases memory bandwidth) Many enthusiasts and even the manufactures overclock their cards (memory and core).

Here is an interactive video card chart:

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2…

The best card for the money in the US currently are:

$75 - 7600gt

$90 - 8600gt

$120 - x1950pro 256mb

$130 - x1950pro 512mb

$130 - 8600gts 256mb

$165 - x1950xt 256mb

$195 - x1950xt 512mb

$250 - 8800gts 320mb

$340 - 8800gts 640mb

...x2900xt

...8800gtx

...8800ultra (factory overclocked GTX).

All prices reflect mail-in-rebates.|||Well...

This is a tough question to answer. The answer is dependent upon what kind of game you will be playing.

Most of the time, the GPU is the most important factor.

Is this Graphic card enough for a good gaming performance? at least to play Pc Games?

ITs my new LAPTOP and i dont know if this video card is enough to play "battle for middle eath2" "WoW" "Battlefield2" or any good game

VIDEO CARD!

256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450

----Let me know what good video card for dell i can purchase if this is not good enough .

Thankz|||That video card is probably one of the better ones you can get on a laptop. I know it can run WoW, but not sure about Battlefield 2. |||it can play it, but not at high settings|||If you have a laptop then it is impossible to upgrade the video card because it is specially made and soldered directly onto the motherboard.

That should be a sufficient card for those games. You have a lower mid-range card.

Going along with steve below me: I agree for gaming get a desktop, I tried gaming on a laptop my first two years of college the thing was just a vacuum for dust that you can't get out of the laptop and gaming laptops are so unportable(15min battery life, requires a cooling fan etc) that it defeats the purpose of the laptop all together. I ended up building a pc after my terrible experience with my laptop|||yeah looks like it will handle the games just fine... just not high settings.

btw, i have an ATI gfx card too (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 512MB GDDR3), but i would recommend an Nvidia gfx card. in my experience, nVidia runs cooler and less buggy....idk.

- and laptop? dude if ur a gamer get a pc desktop... gaming laptop is just not there yet... not without major heating issues.

What's a good video card?

I play world of Warcraft and am thinking about buying Starcraft 2. I searched the highest rated ones on newegg because they seem to have the best prices but I'm not sure what to get. When I currently play wow it often becomes very choppy for a period of 5 mins or so.(my current card is integrated into the motherboard, something I didn't know when I bought the computer.)|||I guess it depends on your budget.

I heard a GeForce 9800 can max out Starcraft 2, so better cards like the GeForce 260, Radeon HD 4850, etc. would be more than you need.

There's an HD 4850 going for $90 on newegg, I think that's a really good deal.

Good video card but bad processor?

Okay I just ordered a GT 240 from Newegg, and I'm pretty exited to get it, but what I wonder is if my cpu is gonna bottleneck my performance hard. I'm gonna build my new pc but I'm just gonna get the vid card first. Anyways onto the topic, I have a 1 core amd cpu which is pretty bad but yeah, do you think I will lose a whole bunch of performance?|||Yes, you will definitely bottleneck at the CPU, being single core, but save up for an AM3+ motherboard! They will be out soon and will run both current AM3 CPU's and the new Bulldozer core CPU's for when the price drops.|||before you go all wild man here, look at the $400 box from the September System Builder marathon that Tom's Hardware Guide conducted. that box has no operating system or externals, but they do go to some lengths to balance the gpu and cpu capabilities.

The HD 5670 they used in that box is about a 10% better performer than a GT 240 [equipped with 1 Gb GRRD5 memory, not GDDR3].

Tom's used an Athalon II x3 cpu with that box -- not exactly a world-beater.

AND, Tom's has relative performance charts for graphics cards shoud you decide you can go a bit better.

btw, I saw a GT 250 on sale last week for only $75 US. Might have been at Newegg.com -- t hat one will probably out do the HD 5670.

***

the more complex games, graphics wise, won't run too well on the 240. See what Tom's had to say about them and remember that they used a multi-core [cpu] machine in their testing.

with a multi-core, the 2nd core is frequently tasked to help out the gpu [when the gpu is overloaded]. with a single core, when the gpu is overloaded, the cpu has to stop processing the game to lend a hand -- this causes jerkiness in the scenes.|||Not knowing your full system specs it's hard to say whether or not your cpu will bottleneck your performance until you build a new comp. You could have a 2.0GHz sempron (which would be a bottleneck) or a 3.5GHz Athlon64 which isn't horrible. I'd be suprised if you had a really slow single core cpu with a motherboard that has a PCIe 2.0 expansion slot for the new video card you ordered.|||Yes you will loose performance with that CPU.

The GT 240 is not a great card by the way.|||The likelihood of your processor of being a bottleneck is very high. An athlon 64 can barely decode a 1080p video encoded in h264, which is approximate baseline required performance to do anything useful these days. I have an Athlon 64 + Radeon HD3650 + 512 MB of ram, and it can't do much...

On the bright side, the GT240 SHOULD have all of nVidia's CUDA, Purevideo and other branded technology. You should be able to use DXVA (Direct X Video Acceleration) or VDPAU (Video Decode and Presentation API for UNIX) which allows you to off load video decoding to the graphics card. If your going to build a new computer, consider turning your old PC into an HTPC! It won't be a gaming monster, but it should be an HD video beast!

What are some good video cards that is better then the geforce 8400gs?

i know about gtx but right now i just need a good decent video card without having to buy a power supply to. it needs to be low profile and i do have the 8400gs which is decent but i want something better|||Almost EVERYTHING manufactured since 2006 is better than a GeForce 8400GS. What's your power supply rating?

The cheapest worthwhile upgrade would be a Radeon HD 5450.

What is a good video card for a Vista Computer to help run the play games more efficiently?

That depends on how much money you are willing to spend and what games you wanna play.

I have just ordered a Radeon HD 6850, which seems to give the best "bang-for-your-buck" out of any graphics card around, atm. It will cost you over $200 though.

Can a good video card compensate for a slow processor?

I want to play some of the high end games that are out like Batman Arkham Asylum and Just Cause 2 but I only have an AMD 64 2.7Ghz processor (single core). If I buy a 1GB pci-express 16x graphics card will this compensate for my processor and let the games run smoothly?|||It does help if you have a good CPU but it is not essential. A good video card will make a big improvement if you only have a budget card at the moment.

There would be no point in buying a really expensive video card if the rest of the system is not up to it though.

Games like the ones you mention would run pretty well with just an Nvidia250gts or an ATI 5750/70.

The CPU you currently have is not that bad and is capable of running those games with the above cards.

Move up to a Intel core i3/i5 CPU system when you get the money and use the same video card until you can afford better.|||Having a good Video card will help compensate for a slower processor a little bit, however you also need a good processor, and enough ram to ensure that the Video Card will have enough work to do...in other words...it would be like running a car's engine without a spark plug if the processor is not good enough...the engine can produce more power, but because it doesnt have the spark plug a HUGE loss of power and stuttering will occur.|||No. That's what we call a bottleneck: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bottleneck

Example:

intel Pentium 4 3GHz & Radeon HD5870 1GB - CPU Bottleneck

intel Core i7 930 2.8GHz Quad Core & NVidia GeForce 6600GT 128MB - GPU Bottleneck

intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz & Radeon HD5830 1GB - No Bottleneck = Good System

If you are going to buy a powerful graphics card then you will need a CPU that doesn't restrict more powerful components and also if you are going to upgrade then you'll probally need a new power supply.|||I would look at the system requirements for the game you are trying to play to be honest. But if you would like to check if your system meets the minimum requirements for the game in question go here:

http://compsimgames.about.com/gi/o.htm?z…|||yeah , it is enough for you playing these games. 2.7 Ghz is a relativeky high speed|||No you need a good processor as well.

THX|||I have a "Nvidia GeForce GTS 250" with 1024mb and it can run with highest settings

- the thing to look for in a graphics card is video memory, performance, and GDDR|||I would recommend a HD4670. They are cheap, small, and consume very little power. So it should work even if your PSU is weak. Also, the HD4670s are pretty powerful (comparable to a Geforce 8800).

Also, you can get one for around $70-$80. Here is a link to a $70 XFX HD4670 on Newegg:

Suggestions for a good video card?

I'm running Vista and I am running integrated GeForce 6150 right now. I was thinking of upgrading so that I could hook up dual monitors for Windows Media Center. I also will be doing some light gaming as well. I was thinking a GeForce 8600 with 512mb RAM, like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… Has anyone used this card or any other suggestions in a similar price range?|||According to your link, Newegg isn't carrying the card you were referencing. For light gaming, an 8600 should work. If you can go up $200 or so, the 8800GT is a "bang for the buck" card. Asus makes good mobos, but for video card I would recommend either eVGA or XFX. They have lifetime warranties and the customer service is excellent.|||8600 would be nice. light gaming tho? maybe a 7900.|||well, geforce 8600gt is good enough. although if you have more money geforce 8800 gt is far better

Good cheap priced video card?

I want to get orange box and Crysis for the computer, but I need a better video card. I found a nice GeForce 6200, priced around 40$, and I was wondering if it could play them. If not, how much would I spend for a video card that could play games with good graphics like that?|||The 6200 won't run Crysis at anything but the lowest settings.

Try something like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/…|||for under $100, you won't be able to run Crysis or any Source based Valve games, on anything but minimum graphics, which you still might have trouble running it, depending on your processor and memory and everything.|||... your joking right?

buy an nvidia 8800 (does not matter how much it cost, as long as it is 8800 your set)

priced around 170|||Yes you can run mid settings with a sub $100 card because i have done it with DX9/XP What you need is to find a used ATI 1950Pro or Nvidia 7950 in hardware forums and garage sales. FYI i got it @ USD $75 :p For low budget solutions you would be looking at HD 3850 @ $150 or HD 3870 @ $185 Anthing higher then the 8800 and 3870x2 becomes options

Is a 450gts a good video card?

Would a 450gts single card be able to play new games metro 2033 on max and badcompany 2

im getting a i5 2.8 ghz quad with it|||It's a good card for the price, but would be considered the minimum choice for tough games like those.

The GTS 450 is an improvement over the older GTS 250, but it's slower overall than the Radeon 5770 ($150) and GTX 460 ($190). Howeve, for Metro 2033 it actually manages to outperform the Radeon 5770.

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1408…|||It's a entry level graphics card

it won't be able to handle metro 2033 on high settings but should get decent fps on medium

That's because Nvidia has way better DX11 support then ATI|||any nvidia 400 series is a good card your fps will be good in playing games even at high settings

Whats som good video card the will work with the Asus M4A87TD EVO ?

name as much as u can and i dont want any weak cards|||Every single video card in the world that is not an AGP slot will work with that motherboard. There you go.|||Doesn't matter what motherboard you have, if you have at least one PCI-E slot, then you can install a video card, PERIOD.

Since you don't list a budget, and you don't want a "weak" card, then get a GTX 580. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis… Hope you're on at least a QUALITY 650w power supply,,,

What is a good video card for a laptop.?

Im going to be getting laptop for christmas and was wondering whats a good video card for Halo 2 or Unreal Tournament 3.

|||I have an nVidia Geforce 8600m GT video card in my Asus G-series laptop and I play Unreal Tournament all the time on it!! Also, if you get an nVidia video card in your laptop, go to http://www.laptopvideo2go.com and they have hacked video card drivers for laptops (as you can't use the ones you download from nVidia's website) and with the new hacked drivers, you can take advantage of the PhysX capabilities that nVidia came up with for their new drivers.

P.S. I would highly recommend Asus laptops.|||With laptops, unless you're a technie, then the laptop should be purchased with the proper graphics card . Trying to modify is not for the light hearted.|||what is your price range.....

if it is low, i suggest the intel GMA 4500MHD.....

but that is not that great.... although, it is WAY better than the

Intel GMA X3100...

I would go with a Lenovo with

NVIDIA GeForce 9300M 256MB

as in this configuration....

Do look at the that the laptop has DDR3, which is the next generation of memeoy/.... BIG PERFORMANCE BOOST,,,,,

lol

the ram in that laptop it self costs 200 dollars....

while 4gb of DDR2 only costs 40 dollars...

I would like to buy a good video card for my computer.Any suggestions?

My video card i have now is a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE.This video card only seems to give me about 18 fps.I would like to have something within the 50 to 100 fps.I play Counter Strike alot and have been told that i need a better video card for that game.|||For now I think the Nvidia 8800GTX or the 8800 Ultra's are the best. The Ultra's are overclocked with a little better cooling fan and as a general rule of thumb are $100 or more over the GTX. Save the money and overclock the GTX yourself.

Stay away from ATI in my opinion. I have an ATI card and from day one I have had problems with it. I had to get it sent back(RMA'ed) a week after getting it and 2 times since then. At least I did get the 3 year free warranty with mine which covers any problems I have. ATI for the most part have bad drivers.

Also consider, Nvidia is usually the main card that game manufacturers use in their test machines and they build the games using them, then they do SOME testing for the ATI cards. Only one game that comes to mind that was built around the ATI chipset DOOM3. That game works good with ATI cards but ATI will fall short with most newer games that being released now or in the near future.

Only thing that ATI has going for it in my opinion is when they have a card that will even come close to competing with Nvidia the ATI cards are a little cheaper. You get what you pay for is all I will say. Wish I didn't have this ATI card now and spent the extra $60 for the Nvidia, lol.

You may be able to play Counterstrike real good with something like an 7600 which aren't to expensive now but I would save and get the better card for future games. Another thing is, the 8800 are going to be outdated soon by the DirectX 10.1 cards soon. So they may come way down in prices but still be outdated when DX10.1 games come out.|||the one you own know should work

Is Nvidia GeForce 210 a good video card?

Thats the current video card i am using now and to be honest, i am running very low fps while playing world of warcraft(raiding), like sub 10. What would be a good video card with the exact same power need and slot?|||Your Nvidia GeForce 210 graphic card is a good card because it uses the latest slot PCI-E 2.0 and the interfaces, DVI, VGA and HDMI.. you can upgrade to higher memory if your system get logged of the lower memory graphic card, you bought a 1GB video card for faster multi tasking and especially for your gaming sessions and you can refresh your operating system by re-installing it and upgrade into windows 7 ultimate gamers edition.. windows 7 is the ultimate operating system quick and easy to bring also more user friendly. There are many additonal features. Lastly for me I recommend you to use the AMD Phenom 6 core or any AMD processors, partner it with ATI Radeon 4000 or 5000 series graphic cards because AMD manufactured the GPU of ATI radeon graphics.. so it would be very compatible, the sharing, the best performance. spending more money in building a gamers edition of a computer system is a history just fulfill and satisfy our gamers and multi tasking session needs.. hope that helps..

Good video card for 1920 x 1080?

im planning to buy a new pc... and i've chosen samsung p2250 with its native resolution being 1920 by 1080....

And I already know that as your resolution gets bigger, performance of videocard will drop..

So what is a good videocard for 1920 by 1080? That will let me play current games (like left for dead, devil may cry, call of duty, crysis, etc.) in its native resolution.? Thanks.!!!!!!!!! 5 stars for the best answer.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (im also wondering about ATI and Nvidia)|||1. HD 5970 (best)

i was thinking of buying this video card to play WoW, but need a little more in depth tech advice,

Memory- Kingston 1gb ddr2

HDD- SATA seagate barracuda 250gb 7200 rpm

i need a new video card really bad and was wanting some tech input as to what to look for for performance, i know some basics, but i really need to fix this really bad stuttering problem i have in world of warcraft and im wondering if its the graphics card and the onboard that ive tryed that were just crap. maybe a new higher performace card will fix it?

i have a budget of 60 dollars so if you have any suggesstions please tell.

THANKS!!!!|||Your problem is not the graphics card. The MINIMUM RAM requirement for World of Warcraft is 1GB.

I would advise adding a second stick of RAM (or two new ones) before changing anything else. You'll see a much bigger performance increase for less cash.

Would this be a good video card/PSU combo?

Hey everyone. I'm going to be upgrading my fairly new computer soon to make it into a gaming computer :D. Right now it's sitting with an Intel Core i5 @ 2.67, 6GB of DDR3 RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5450, and a 300w PSU. Here are the PSU and video card that hopefully will be replacing it :)

Leme know what you think xD|||YES and with plenty of power to spare. GTS 450 is just a 106 watt card. Core i5 draws less than 100W. The rest of your PC will consume less than 100W. I bet your set up will never hit 300W on wall socket.

Check some typical system power consumtion here;

http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/196…|||nice card, but i would get at the very least a 700watt power supply.

Can anybody reccomend a good video card?

So I want to start getting into to playing computer games again (such as ever quest) and I somehow blew my video card in my computer. So i have been looking for a new one but don't know a lot about these types of things. I have the specs for the old one i have so if anybody could help me find one that is similar or better in performance and also doesn't break the bank I would appreciate it!

The one i had is:

GeForce 7300 GT

Graphics Bus Technology : PCI - Express

Memory Interface: 128 - Bit

Memory bandwidth: 10.7GB/s

Fill Rate: 2.8 Billion pixels / sec

Vertices/Second (Millions): 350

RAMDACs : 400MHz

Any help is great!|||Well, the first question that needs answering is- what's your computer's power supply rating?

Higher-end cards require more power, so often it's necessary to upgrade your computer's power supply in order to install modern gaming cards. Also, what are the other specs on your computer- processor and RAM etc?

Anyway, the 7300GT is very low-end by today's standards, so even $55 cards like the Radeon HD 5570 or GeForce GT 430 would be a major improvement.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

However if you can spend just a little more, the Radeon HD 6570 or GeForce GT 440 are substantially better:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Now the cards I've listed work fine on a stock 300 watt power supply. So they'd certainly work in your computer, because the 7300GT also required a 300W power supply. However, going to anything higher might require purchasing a new psu.

So you'd be looking at spending at least $150... for example, a Radeon HD 6770 for $110 (before rebate) plus a psu for $40-$50.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

For AMD/ATI graphics cards, Sapphire is the best brand overall, both in quality/reliability and customer support. For Nvidia cards, EVGA is the best brand. Other top brands include MSI, XFX and Asus.

Performance- your GeForce 7300GT is even slower than the bottom card listed:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac…

Hierarchy chart:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fast…

Anyway, cards in the $100 and higher price range are WAY above the performance level of your old GeForce 7300GT... so if you're not looking for a major upgrade, stick with the earlier options I've listed. They're still much better than your old card, and will allow you to see Fippy Darkpaw's heroic charge to the Qeynos gates, or Grimfeather swooping down from the skies of West Karana... if you're looking ;)

I think server populations in original EQ are pretty low these days. Most players went over to EQ2 and Vanguard: SoH (the true successor to EQ) before eventually moving on to other games. Rift has received really great reviews is probably the best of the current popular MMOs. And of course there's a lot of buzz about Star Wars: The Old Republic, if you're tempted by the dark side.

Good luck!|||For $310 - XFX HD-697A-CNFC Radeon HD 6970

For $210 - XFX HD-695X-ZNFC Radeon HD 6950

For $155 - XFX Double D HD-685X-ZDFC Radeon HD 6850

For $110 - XFX HD-679X-ZRFC Radeon HD 6790

For $80 - XFX HD-657X-ZNFQ Radeon HD 6570

Make sure that it is worth putting a new card into your system. Without any specifications from you, it might not be worth upgrading and you could end up putting in a new card just to get minimal or no net results. For example, if you are running a dual-core CPU, putting in a new graphics card is still going to be bottlenecked at the CPU. No video card is going to solve that problem. Also, many of the new cards require two 6-pin connectors from your power supply. Do you have that? If not, you may need to look at the 6570 card which does not require additional power from the Power Supply.

I recommend XFX because of their lifetime Parts AND Labor warranty and personal experience. Gigabyte, ASUS and others make high quality cards as well.

Good luck.

Is the video quality or gaming quality of using my HDMI port on my motherboard better than a good video card?

Digital is digital; it doesn't matter whether it's onboard DVI or the DVI on a 4870x2 card as far as image quality goes. 3D rendering speed and accuracy is another whole can of worms, and aftermarket cards pretty much always resoundingly pummel onboard.|||no, a good video card is better, the hdmi port just improves the quality of the picture, not how well the game plays. lets say you run the hdmi and you have a crappy card, your games will run like crap (depending on the specs of your computer and the specs of the game) but if you are watching a movie it will look superior to a regular monitor port. basically hdmi is a fancy monitor port. think of it as HD quality to a regular dvd quality

like

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/5086/…|||No...

the video quality and gaming quality would be better in a dedicated (seperate) video card than an integrated card

video card helps to lessen the strain on the main processor by acting as a seperate processor dedicated in video/graphics processing.|||onboard is onboard which means it usually sucks

How much does a good video card cost?

First of all, I know nothing about computers.

I've got windows vista, on an eMachines computer. I've got 2 gigs of ram, and it's just a cheap computer I got at wal-mart. :-) The only thing I do on my computer is talk to friends on aol instant messanger, and play World of Warcraft.

I'm on World of Warcraft right now, playing with the graphics set to 'Fair', and i've got 15-20 fps in Dalaran. When there's a lot of people around (such as raids/middle of the day), I've got about 5-8.. So really my questions are; is it possible for my computer to get a better video card? How much would a 'good' video card cost me? and how much would my fps be if I did buy one?

Thanks. :)|||35~3500

and hey ill agree with the Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT. i have built 2 systems using that card. cheep and effective as hell.|||http://internetgames.about.com/od/hardwa…|||If you want one that can run WoW on nice graphics then I suggest the Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT since it is fairly cheap (around $100) and can run most of the Direct X 10 games on decent graphics (100 fps)|||For WoW you can get a good FPS with cards that cost from ~$100-400, but it might not be worth it with a computer you bought from Walmart if the other components are crap. Plus the parts might not be compatable with a newer card.

I'm not sure what sort of computer you have at the moment but a nVidia 8800GT worked just fine in WoW back in my raiding days.

More than anything it's your internet connection coping with the amount of stuff flying about your screen in a raid.

Edit: 9800GTs are just fine, but it's practically the same as the 8800GT and the 8800 is cheaper..

The only thing better about the 9800 is it's generally cooler.|||I recommend a card raging from 60 US dollars to 150 US dollars for your rig. You have to check if you power supply can support a high end card if your trying to go high end. High end cards ranges from 200 to 700 dollars. Your processor and monitor size may also contribute to your FPS so I really cannot answer how much FPS you'll get unless you gave me your whole PC specs.

Whats a good video card under 400 watts?

I have a Pc the power supply is only 400 watt.

I want a video card that is good for mid to low gaming.

My pc specs are

Intel core i5 650

8gb of DDR3

1TB Western Digital Hard drive

Intel HD Grahphics|||Most video cards require one 6-pin connection directly from the power supply. Make sure you have one before proceeding.

I'd recommend something along the lines of an ATI Raedon HD 5670 or ATI Raedon HD 5750 usually for mid level gaming but i'm concerned that your power supply is only 400w. You may be able to get away with it if the power supply is a good quality one, but if your pc was a pre-built the chances are that it isn't.

I think personally, i'd change the power supply for a quality 500-550w one with 80plus certification as well as upgrade the graphics card.|||your best bet would be an ati HD5570

Whats a good video card with dual DB15 ports?

hey all you computer whizzes out there! I have a problem and i was hoping you could help me. i want to hook up a second monitor to my computer, only problem is that my video card has only one DB15 port for my monitors. do you know any good cards with two ports, or if you don't do you know how to find one? I tried searching things like dual DB15 ports on new egg, but i got nothing.|||Get a Dual DVI-I card and then get two DVI-A male to D-SUB15 male cables or two DVI-A male to D15pin female adapters.

What's a good video card for Oblivion for my computer?

I just got a new computer about a week ago now, and I need to get a new graphics card for it because the stock one that came with it isn't compatible with Oblivion. I really want the game to look good, at least like it does on the Xbox360. I'm pretty tech savvy, but when it comes to some of the hard ware like video cards, I tend to get lost, so here are my computer's specs:

276 GB Hard Drive

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2220 @ 2.40GHz 2.40Ghz

RAM: 3.00 GB

System type: Windows Vista (I may be going back to XP) 32-bit Operating System

Video Card: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family|||I highly recommend you change your PSU before anything, since I'm guessing you got a prebuilt since it has the G31 chipset. Also, I don't recommend any high-end cards since the G31 chipset only comes in PCI-e x16, not 2.0, so you won't have the bandwidth to use it to it's full potential. For the card itself, I'd say either a GTS 250 1GB(512MB if it's not widescreen) or a 4850 1GB. Any better and you will have to get a quality 500W PSU, which cost maybe $50-80 or a 600W which cost about $80+ depending on amps.|||how much are you looking to spend?

the ATI HD 4850 and Nvidia GTX 260 are both really good and will run that no problem. if you are looking to spend more, the 4870 or 4890 or the 280 or 285. less than that, Nvidia 9800 GT or 8800 GT

Are these good video card and memory specs?

I'm thinking of buying a computer from my friend who doesn't use it. This is the video card and the memory it has

Dual 2GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon HD 5970 CrossfireX - video card

and 12GB DDR3 1600MHz (3x 4GB) Tri Channel Memory for memory

is this good? I'm paying 400 dollars for it, it's a desktop and it comes with a 20" monitor.|||That thing sounds amazing. That's a steal.|||Well of course it is. But I think he's winding you up mate. The V/ card is worth more than that alone.|||wowee, 400 bucks? are you SURE he aint trippin you or something?? better hurry up and get it. but before you do, test it our first to see if it works. check the processor. make sure its a dual core. at least.|||Oh really? Your amusing. Your "friend". Keep dreaming buddy.

Where can I get a good video card at a reasonable price?

My Team Fortress 2 won't without it, I also wanna know if I install the card my self or go to a computer place, please answer|||If you go to a computer place, you will need to pay their prices, plus labor.

Pricewatch is a good place to search for cards at good prices.|||Depends on what you consider to be reasonable. If you're on a tight budget, you could pick up a GeForce 7 series very cheaply. If you have a bit more, maybe an 8600.

my video card burnt out anyone know of any reallly good video cards for its price nothing over 200 but id prefer around 100 lol thats equal or better than the geforce 8600GT which im using right now made for gaming|||Well from what I understand, you're looking at one of 2 cards:

Just for fun, here's the rating of the nVidia GTS 250:

Passmark Ranking: 31st in the world

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_…

Price: $115 (-$15 Mail-in rebate) = $100 after 3 months of waiting

It costs the same as the HD 4850 but just can't beat it. Sorry again nVidia, ripoff pricing still is in effect I see.

NOTE: Nothing nVidia makes matches these cards at those price points nor do they match the Radeon HD 4870 at $155 further up but you said keep it near $100 so I did. You'll need a 450W power supply. And I think someone is trying to SELL you a card, kinda makes you wonder who he works for when newegg.com already sells a GTS 250 for $110 without it being on sale.

What would be a better video card?

I currently have a Compaq Presario CQ60-4110US Notebook PC which has a NVIDIA GeForce 8200M with up to 895MB total graphics memory. I would like a better video card for games like the sims 3 and world of warcraft. I usually have a framerate between 10 and 20 fps, and less than that if I'm in high population areas. I dont' know a lot about computer hardware and would really appreciate the help!|||laptops aren't really upgradable unless you can find another graphics card exactly the same size and everything, but this one may work http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_840… its a model up from yours.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gtx_280_us.html

My MainBoard (Motherboard) Supports ATI CrossFire so i can use two video cards at once.|||I wouldn't upgrade personally.

I use a gtx 260 and I've found it will max pretty much every game out there at 1680x1050. So unless you have a monitor that's 1920x1080/1920x1200/ or higher I wouldn't bother with upgrading.|||the 280 is a fine card but ok

470 would be a decent upgrade on nvidea

5850 performs slightly worse than the 470 from ati and the 5870 hd from ati performs about the same as the 480

two 5770s would perform between a 5850 and 5870 hd (so around about the performance of a 470 and two 5830s would perform even better

personally would say get a 5850 or 5870 it will have plenty of power and if you want you can add another later when you have saved up|||i pretty much agree with what Jack said exept for two 5770s in crossfire, that is a bad idea. One powerful card is always better than two smaller.

I recommend avoiding crossfire, it causes a lot of microstutter.

Is ASUS EN8500GT silent magic a good video card?

in my opinion, the 8500 is a good card however for gaming nowadays your better off 2x 4870 as ATi takes the cake with the next gen videocards at the moment however if that out of your budget like most of us i would recommend the 8600GT it just abit more expensive then the 8500 but the difference in performance is alot.

What's a good budget video card to play Oblivion?

I am looking for a good video card to play TES 4: Oblivion on for around $150, preferably a nVidia GeForce PCI-e card.

Thanks.|||Geforce 7900GS. $150 at newegg. Great card for the money, and should be good for 1280x1024 with oblivion. Overclocks well too.

But, for $150 (mail in rebate price) you can have an ATi X1950XT at newegg. much faster card, offering much much faster performnace.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

in combination with MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

and it works like a charm.|||Yes. The long plastic slot(s) you see near the bottom edge of the board are called PCI-e slots, and the *primary* intent is for Graphics cards...and yes, on some systems, you can install up to 4 graphics cards (called QuadSLi for nVidia, and Crossfire-X for ATi cards). There are other uses, like enhanced Sound Cards, specialised NIC cards, etc...

As for the HD 5770...it's the card with the most bang for the buck right now.

The matter of "EXTERNAL" vid cards...those are cards external to the case...and while there *is* such a beast, they're not as good as a Dedicated card (an add-on graphics card that is installed into a PCI-e slot).

That being said, unless you have a really wonky case, the 5770 is a standard 10" (or less) card. It should fit.

Good Luck!|||yes, u can add your own graphics card onto your motherboard. and disable the intergrated one. some motherboards do it automatically when u add a new graphics card via pci. agp. pci x16. pci x1. etc.etc. any card in general. but if it dont disable it u can go into your device manager and disable it yourself. even if u dont its not a big deal but it will give you your dedicated memory back. if u want full potential out of your graphics card get a quad core processor 2.8ghz+ and at minimum 3gb of ram. if not you will only get like half of its potential.|||Yes it can take a dedicated card. mobos with integrated graphics are set up to override the integrated graphics when a dedicated card is plugged in, It woln't be a problem. You have 2 pci express 2.0 x16 ports which is what all the new and fast graphics cards use, (including the sapphire), you could have 2 graphics cards if you wanted and the graphics cards in question could be linked.|||Yes, you can add a graphics card to a motherboard with integrated graphics.

Yes, that graphics card will fit that motherboard.|||yes you can since the motherboard has 2 PCI eXpress slots. 2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (blue @ x16 mode, gray @ x4 mode)

you have to put the card in the blue PCI eXpress slot.|||You can add a card. I would add an ATI Radeon Graphics card, which would probably work best.

Is nvidia vanta LT a good video card

i just wanted to no if nvidia vanta LT is a good video card for gta 3|||even the worst add on card you can still buy is better than that card. at best its 16mb...|||Where did you get that? That's one seriously outdated card. That's about as low-end as it gets. There are cards for under $50 that will run circles around that dinosaur. GTA3 is old, but I doubt it'd run well on that clunker. Just because nvidia says its compatible with xp doesn't mean the performance will be any good.

Is the Nvidia 8600gt video card good for playing any of the games on the orange box?

I heard it's cheap, and all the good video cards I see are expansive. This one isn't as expansive, but does it work? I don't care if it will give me awesome graphics as long as I can play Half Life 2 or Portal or one of those games without super lag, or constant crashes. Does any one recommend it who have it and play orange box?|||considering that the 8800gt is recommended for cryengine (designed for alienware) games and i can still play half life 2 on my 1.6ghz 1gb ram laptop (i suspect the graphics card sucks) you should be fine|||You get what you pay for. That card is indeed cheap but you will not be able to play with good settings. You won't get super lag or crashing but you won't get smooth gameplay. I recommended spending the extra $ and getting a better card such as a geforce 9500gt or an ATI HD 4600+ series card if you want smooth gameplay.

What exactly does the video card in a pc do and does this one sound like a good one?

I'm trying to figure out what a video card does, because I'm buying a laptop and trying to look at all the features. I would also like to know how to tell what a good video card is.

This is the video card on the laptop that I'm looking at. Let me know if that is good or not.

Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

And also how to tell whether a video card is good or not, and what they are for. Thanks!|||The video card renders everything you see on your monitor. A video card can either be dedicated, meaning it is a separate piece of hardware that attaches to the motherboard via a slot, or it can be integrated, which means it is a chip that is part of the motherboard.

In this case, the Intel 4500 is an integrated video card. They are not as powerful as a dedicated card, however, you probably will not need anything better than this depending on what you use your computer for.

For simplicity's sake, it is fair to say that any video card you have, dedicated or otherwise, will render the picture, standard definition video, and anything 2-dimensional on your monitor exactly the same. The only reasons to have a higher powered graphic card are as follows:

1) You want high quality HD video in top resolutions (such as 1080p).

2) You do 3-D work (creating models, for instance)

3) You play 3-D video games.

If any of those are true, there are different applications of video card upgrades that you could look into, however for most users, the graphic card that is in that system will probably do everything you need it to do and more.|||A video card is a PC hardware component whose function is to generate and output images to a display.

That card looks fine if you don't do a lot of gaming.

What is a good video card that will run with a 300 watt power supply?

The games I am trying to play are Call of Duty 4, X-Plane 9, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.|||300 W isn't even enough to run a modern PC reliably. When the graphic comes up, hover over it and click to zoom in and make it readable.

This is power consumption just for your vid card. Your other PC components can take up anywhere from 100-200w depending on processor, how many hard drives, etc.

You really should look into getting a good brand name 500w PSU just to keep your system safe.|||You need to upgrade the power supply to at least 500W-550W to play games with a good graphics card.|||the video card is PCE-E?

I own this card. I can play most games on max settings and a decent sized res for my 22 inch widescreen. This card is a beast for a good price. Its quite because it has no fan just it stays cooler than cards with them because its revolutionary cooling. Its very fast and for a cool price. It doesn't need a massive power suppy either. It works with vista if you want to but it doesn't have to. You need to have a minimum 350W system power supply and a PCI E 16 slot.

And if your motherboard allows or you get a new computer that allows SLI you can link this card with one exactly like it and use two of them at once for almost double the punch. This card allows SLI.|||You might want to get a larger power supply. Thats a bit low.

I'd recommend the 9800 GT (1GB) if you are on a lower budget, the GTX 260 if you have more spending power.|||uhm for a 22inch screen or lower there is no need AT ALL for a gtx 260, you cant possibly use the full potential of gtx 260 unless you are playing that one stupid game crisis. left for dead is decent but nowhere near needed for gtx 260, get the 9800 gtx, thats the max you would need possibly for your kind of games, otherwise a normal 9800 gt is more than enough.|||For CS:S, yeah. For L4D...Probably not on high settings. I'd advise going with a Radeon HD4850; they give fantastic bang for your buck.

What is a good video card that will work on an Asus P5VDC-MX motherboard?

Any AGP video card will work, I would recommend an 8x version. You can find many of them online at either tigerdirect.com or newegg.com.

Hello what would be a good Video Card for my computer?

Ok so my computer isnt anything special or fancy just a 400-500$ computer i picked up a few years ago. While i still have not had a problem where I could not play a game some of the newer games with good graphics I have to play on low setting and get poor FPS. Thanks alot|||$100 will do just fine. Low profile and a crummy power supply are going to be limiting factors, but if you can find a low profile Radeon 5570 (try to get one with GDDR5 memory, not DDR3) or an Nvidia GT240 then you'll see a very nice boost in fps. gtx series is best for extreme gamers and the same goes for 6800 and 6900 series but they are pricey

for mainstream gaming you can go for gt series or 6600 or 6700 series and you can play games at medium to high setting and don't hope for ultra high and they are cheaper than the gtx and 6800 or 6900

Does a better video card help with processor overload?

Does a better video card help with processor overload?|||Depends on why the processor is overloaded.

If you're playing a DVD movie on an old, single core system, the cpu will have to do all the display logic and may overload. In this case, a video card would help immensely.

In other cases the cpu may just be overloaded with processor specific tasks. In this case, the video card will be of no help in relieving the cpu strain.|||it does to some extend but ram does more. processor overload can be reduced by closing unwanted processes running this can be done by using the task manager in windows.|||In some cases yes but it depends on how good the GPU is, To handle the Graphics processing but you have other factors such as Onboard Audio And onboard LAN (Ethernet connectivity) That can cause processor usage.

4GB RAM

CPU. AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor

CPU SPEED 2.71 GHz Performance Rated at: 5.2845 GHz

Sadly my video card is GeForce 6150SE nForce 430,and thats a HORRIBLE video card for gaming.

So I was wondering whats a good video card for gaming thats $110 ,or less?|||Problem is, you'll probably have to replace your power supply for a higher end GPU if your PSU is stock

For around that price though you can get a 4870 Radeon on Newegg for $100 or so after rebate|||Unfortunately the 430 isn't such a great card. It would be a good physx card or for folding. I would recommend you go with a GTS 450 which can be had for around $100. It's on the same level as a GTX 260 with DX11. Can ahndle almost any game at up to1680x1050 and some 1920x1200 with lower textures.

When the prices come down in 6 months or so, get another and run those SLI. 450SLI are on the same level as a GTX 470, run cooler, use less energy and cost much less. Just make sure you get the latest driver (as they are always tweaked for newer games) and have a PSU that can handle the wattage. A good 550w or 600w is ample.

Hope that helps|||http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

HD5770 review: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-…|||As people here said - you can get the HD5750 (I'm not sure about the 5770) and also - NV GTS450 which is about the same level of performance.

B-U-T, you do have to tell us what is your full rig. If we are talking on old Athlon X2 cpu, it will be quite a bottleneck for a card like 5750/5770 even to the point of having no advantage over HD6670, for example.

ALSO, you have to post your screen resolution.

Anyhow, for 1280x1024, I guess the GTS450 will be great:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gefo…

but again, you have to remember this review was done with some I7-2600K cpu or something. You'll probably get significantly lower FPS for max settings. Therefore, you should reduce some of the graphics settings in the game.|||Finding a GOOD card under 100 is hard, even the 5770 on newegg.com are between 115 and 150. No doubt its a good card ESPECIALLY for the price, but if ur aiming for a very max price of 100, its gonna bust your budget.

newegg.com has AMD HD 6670s for about 95, and Nvidia GTS 440 for about 80. the 440 being a lower end and the 6670 being a low to mid. they also have HD 5670s at about 80-85 and that prbly your best bet. It gives you better performance than the 440, at about the same price.|||6670 DDR5. or 5770 on sale.|||hmmm,i think the only best card would be hd 5770..the price has dropped down and you can find it for $100

Whats a very good/awesome video card that is around the 100 to 150 dollar budget and is very good in gaming?

I was thinking the ATI radeon 4830, anyone else think this is a good video card? and what I should buy?|||I got my 512mb EVGA Double slot 9600 GT for $70 from Newegg a couple of months ago. My computer only scores 11243 with 3dMark06 though. I mean, I can play any of these new games on the market, just not at the max settings.

If you want a great card though, for a great price... grab a 9600gt.|||it's good, but you can also get the ati 4650 or 4670.. they're excellent, especially in the half-life gaming engine (counterstrike), i get about 60 fps on that! terrific cards. i got mine for 90 bucks, it's a sapphire ati 4650 512 mb, for about 150 you can find something like that, if not better. for 200 you can find the 4870 512 mb; go on newegg. all ati's 4600- and 4800-series are excellent.|||what type do u need AGP or PCI-e

if PCI-e look below, for $100 you can get the HD3870|||Try something like a 9500GT for not highly demanding games, if the game is extremely demanding like "Crysis" then i suggest getting a card like an 8800GTX, now they're pretty cheap while they last. ATi video cards are more for watching movies, while nVidia cards are better for gaming. But the final decison is yours. Good Luck

Whats a good video card that I can get and where can I get it?

I'm looking for a better video card for my Dell Dimension 9100. It has a 128mb video card right now, and nowadays that's not enough for games. It has Dual Pentium D 3.0 GHz Processors, 2 GB of RAM, and a 375 watt power supply.|||Your 9100 has a PCI-E x16 slot which means you can use PCI-E x16 video cards.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy…

With the 375 power supply, your best options are:

1) Radeon 5670

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Best all-around card for your computer, the only one around that price point with DX11 support. Uses less power than advertised- works great in 350W systems.

2) GeForce GT240

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Good performer- it's the best card which only requires a 300W power supply.

You might also consider the energy saving/green editions of the GeForce 9800GT

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

These particular 9800GT models are shorter/smaller, only require 350W (they don't have a 6-pin power plug) and are clocked at 550Mhz. Those run about dead-even with the Radeon 5670, although they don't support DX11.

The standard 600Mhz 9800GT cards are faster but also larger. They have the PCI-E power connector and require a minimum of 400W, so you cannot use those (or anything better) without upgrading your power supply first.|||Luckily, your computer has 1 PCI Express X16 slot available, which is great for most modern day graphics cards. The only thing is that your power supply is low. These days, graphics cards require at least a 500W-600W power supply, so I'd definitely recommend buying a new one before installing a new graphics card. Corsair and Antec both make very good brands and I'd recommend buying these, and never a cheap power supply.

As far as video cards go, there are many out there. I can't recommend a single one, but the ATI Radeon 4000 series are great cards. They should work pretty good on your older computer, and they don't require a very big power supply. You can check them out here: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/g…

Make sure to check the specifications under the video card page you are looking at to see the minimum recommended system power supply for that video card.

What's a good video card for Ubuntu ?

The video card I have now sucks (ati all in wonder 9600) with Ubuntu Hardy Heron so I am in the market for a new one that will work better. I would like one that will be recognized as soon as I plug it in and I would like it to work well for 3d desktop effects with copiz fusion. I have been searching on google for quite a while about this but it is hard to find good info and much of it is out of date. Want to spend under $150, Thanks.|||The card you have now will work just fine if you install the proprietary drivers from ATI.

Read the link below for instructions on installing the binary fglrx driver.

nVidia or ATI doesn't matter, Compiz won't work without installing the optional driver from the manufacturer.

Do NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M PCI Express x16 a good video card for gaming?

Hi,

The Quadro FX 570M is at the bottom end of nVidia's mid range mobile workstation graphics offerings.

See:

http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadrofx_fami…

It will run some of the older less demanding games but it will struggle to run the newer graphically demanding games.

Quadro cards are more expensive than GeForce cards as they are optimised for graphics quality and stability as used in CAD/Graphics applications, rather than high frame rates.

If you only want to run games, you would be better off better off spending the same money on a computer with a GeForce graphics chipset, then you would get better gaming performance for your money.|||the quadro series is for workstation graphics. workstation graphics cards are HORRIBLE for gaming|||That card is not designed for gaming.

Is this a good video card? VisionTek 900182 Radeon HD 2600PRO 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 8X HDCP?

Im looking to buy a new video card thats good but still cheap! if you have any suggestions please tell me i only have a agp and pci slots no pcie. Please help me out thank you!

PS. i want to play the newer games like oblivion|||Oblivion reccomends an ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card.

But your proposed card is a supported chipset.|||That will run it just fine. Lots of memory for higher resolutions and 128bit memory bus for good framerates.Need a 300 watt PSU minimum and a AGP 8X graphics slot as this is not a 4X/8X card and will not run in an AGP 4X slot.

Is this a good video card? I just want to play counter strike source at above 100 fps.?

Follow the second link below. Spend the same and get a considerably better card with the same memory size.|||If you're going for Counter-Strike Source, I would get an 8800 model. I run an 8600GS (highest model) and it plays most Source games at 60+.

You do know that the human eye can't preceive FPS any higher than 35, right?|||i myself like the

I have a Dell Inspiron N4010 and want to get a better video card. What is compatible / what are my options?

I want a better video card to run games, but can't find anything about what is/isn't compatible with this model, or how to install it once I have one.|||none

What would be a good video card for my home-built pc?

I'm going to have an AMD 64 x2 processor 4400, and I want to be able to watch and record live television. I will also be doing some video editing, but nothing too major. I want dual monitor set up and would like some inputs for television if possible. Thanks!|||The ATi All-In-Wonder series cards would suit the needs listed. See the link below:|||buy "MSI" editing and TV Tunor card.|||ATI is a good graphics card|||You might need two cards, one video card and one tuner card. Try researching them both separately.|||by an ATI with Avivo and video in|||get ati radeon or geforce.....

that will solve your problem, if you dont want to believe me. conduct a research

Computer help: decision on a good Video card and monitor?

Im looking for a good video card for more or less 120$ it could be a little higher but not much more, and im looking for a HD monitor for 200$ or less any suggestions?|||Here's a great LCD HD monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

As for your graphic card I'd recommend this NVIDIA 9800GTX. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Both items have Free Shipping and are both brands that great and reliable. Of course you may have to look at your motherboard and PSU being able to support the graphic card or not first.

Is this a good video card for video playback and a good price?

im thinking of getting a eVGA NVidia GeForce 6800GT video card for $30 from a friend, is this a decent card for video playbakc/movies transfered to a decently large (377in) tv? Im trying to find a video card with s-video output (or a popular tv output) for my old desktop to make it a media machine. I already have a video card on my motherboard so does it even matter if the graphics card is good? please help, im looking to pay about $50-$70 for something that will look good and ill want to keep/use for a couple of years? thanks.|||yes, your going to need something a bit stronger. At least a 8800.|||I recently added a HD2400 to a very old Hp. I picked it up on ebay for about $40.00. Had to have one that would fit pci slot and, it was between the HD2400 and, Geforce 8400. It plays dvds and, video with no problem. I'm even able to play some games.|||That is some outdated technology. I would try to get the 9000 series. I bet you could get one of those on ebay for that price range. You can get hdmi with the newer cards which is much better than s-video

What's a good video card?

I want to get my husband an awesome video card for his computer. One that will run the newest games smoothly. These are the specs of his computer...i hope it's enough information!

dell

Studio XPS 8100

Intel core i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93 GHz

Ram: 8 GB

64-bit operating system

any suggestions? any brand names that are the best or some i should stay away from? Thanks!|||While it is a really sweet thing for you to consider getting your husband a nice new fast video card, i feel I can partially answer this for him. Please don't. Making a recommendation for someone else with regards to a video card is like buying Chevy rims for a Ford guy. Perhaps a better thing to do would be to tell him your idea and then the two of you can do the deed together, either online or in person. You are awesome for thinking of him like this.

Good luck.

Good video card for gaming?

I am getting a Intel Core 2 duo processor and a Asus P5QC motherboard. This is all because i want to be able to play games like Crysis. I want a good video card for this. Can someone recommend one or tell me if the ASUS EAH4870 will be able to do this?|||any video card with at least 1gig is good enough for gaming, 2gigs is always better

and you also need lots of ram, at least 2gigs, or 4 if you can afford that

^_^|||i'm not sure about asus card. But you can definitely opt for nvidia cards.

cards like nvidia 8600 and lower end models of 9000 series can be used to run crysis, but if u want to get really good graphics then opt for 8800 GT or 9800 if u can afford them.

8800 is about 10k and 9800 is i think 20k,not sure. |||yeah, that should be able to run it, cysis is very graphic intense though so I'd recommend making sure you have at least 2gb of ram. also, if you can get a physics card as well and it will run seamlessly.
