REVISIT: IS THIS A GOOD VIDEO CARD?

OK So i asked a question about a video card for miod graphics

but....

now i feel a bit like not taking less than i can get to save a bit so here:

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=…|||Refurbed with a 90 day warranty? Yech, don't touch it!

Don't just check geeks.com, though. Check Newegg and Tigerdirect to find the best deal. If you can, squeeze in a few more bucks and get a Radeon 5750.

Although looking at your earlier question, you don't want to put too much into a video card, so I'd say 5750 is the most you should get. Get another 2GB of RAM (you only have 2GB, not very good for gaming) and a Pentium D, which is a pretty lousy processor by modern standards.

That looks like about the best you're going to do with what you have. However, DO NOT count on rebates when pricing something out. That card is actually $125 and you're rolling the dice on rebates. Get this one instead:

Less money upfront and less money after rebate, too.

In a gaming rig, the video card often costs as much (if not more) than the motherboard. You can get a good motherboard for under $200, but a lot of nicer gaming cards will run you $300+|||That's an excellent price on a GTS 250, although it is a refurb.

The 250 will require a 6-pin PCIe power connector from your power supply. Hopefully you have a 430+W power supply already in there. If not, you'll need to factor in a new power supply into your budget.

I'd recommend the Radeon HD 5670 which is about the best video card you can get that doesn't require auxiliary power.
